A group of 8 white porcelain vases by the innovative designer Peter Muller for Sgrafo Modern.
In 1955 two brothers, Peter and Klaus Muller opened a small porcelain factory in Germany and created some of the most modern, futuristic-looking pieces from the postwar period.
The textured glazes and organic forms suggest moonscapes.
These sculptural vases are from the Korallenform (coral forms) series, and the arrangement creates an elegant and intriguing still life. All in excellent condition and marked with factory logo and serial number.
In his review in Artforum of a small show of Sgrafo and Fat Lava vases at the Centre D’Edition Contemporaine in Paris in 2010, Quinn Latimer wrote:
“The vases evoke pale Morandi paintings refashioned by an adept, acid-freak ceramicist “.
Organized by Nicolas Trembley who also edited an interesting exhibition catalogue, Sgrafo vs Fat Lava, describing his collection.
