Description
Gio Ponti (1891–1979) stands as one of the most influential figures in 20th-century Italian design. As an architect, designer, and founder of Domus, Ponti helped define modern Italian aesthetics through a unique blend of elegance, lightness, and innovation. His work seamlessly bridged artisanal craftsmanship and industrial production, reshaping the concept of contemporary living.
Among his most iconic creations is the Leggera chair, designed in 1952 and produced by Cassina. Inspired by traditional Chiavari chairs, the Leggera is celebrated for its lightweight structure, refined lines, and exceptional durability. Ponti’s continuous experimentation led to the evolution of this model into the Superleggera chair, an iconic piece that pushed the limits of form and material innovation.
The Leggera chair perfectly embodies Ponti’s philosophy: reducing design to its essential elements while preserving elegance and strength. Today, it remains a timeless symbol of Italian design excellence, highly sought after by collectors and widely featured in sophisticated contemporary interiors worldwide.
A remarkable example of its lasting appeal is our set of 12 Leggera chair, produced around the 1970s by Cassina. All chairs are in excellent condition, and each piece retains its original Cassina label, featuring the distinctive graphic design typical of the 1960s–70s. The upholstery has been fully restored with a refined gold satin fabric, enhancing the chairs’ elegance while respecting the original design integrity.
