Ignazio Gardella: Icon of Italian Modernism and Design Collaborations
Ignazio Gardella (1905–1999), architect and designer, is one of the most influential figures in 20th-century Italian architecture and design, renowned for his rational, elegant, and timeless approach. His work perfectly combines technical innovation with harmonious proportions, creating objects and spaces that continue to inspire contemporary design.
One of Gardella’s most significant collaborations was with Azucena, the historic Italian high-end furniture and lighting company. Together, they developed lamps and furnishings that embody the sophistication of Italian design and the refined lifestyle of Milanese bourgeois living, using premium materials and elegant lines, solidifying Gardella’s legacy as a visionary designer of Italian modernism.
A remarkable example of this collaboration is the LT3 Alzabile floor lamp, designed in 1949 and produced by Azucena. Featuring a slim, adjustable structure and clean architectural lines, the LT3 perfectly balances functionality and style. Particularly rare is our version with a Rosa Portogallo marble base, from one of the first production series, which gives the lamp an exclusive and refined elegance, making it a unique collector’s piece for enthusiasts of iconic Italian design.
