Ignazio Gardella (1905, Milan – 1999, Oleggio) was an Italian architect and designer, born into a family of architects. He began his professional career in the late 1920s, before graduating, working alongside his father Arnaldo Gardella. From the early years, Gardella developed an extensive body of work that included numerous architectural projects and built works.
Before World War II, Gardella collaborated with Luigi Vietti, taking part in several architectural competitions, including projects related to the Casa del Fascio. In 1947, he expanded his practice into industrial design and co-founded Azucena with Luigi Caccia Dominioni, a pioneering company that launched high-quality Italian design production and played a crucial role in shaping post-war Italian design.
Ignazio Gardella’s design focuses primarily on refined furniture and decorative objects, characterized by elegance, functionality, and careful attention to materials. After the war, he designed numerous buildings that addressed themes of space efficiency and modern living. Alongside his professional work, Gardella played a significant role in architectural education, teaching at IUAV in Venice until his death.
