Biography
Perry King (1938-2020), chose Italy after studying in Birmingham and joined the studio of Ettore Sottsass, then a consultant for Olivetti. Together with Santiago Miranda, he contributed to the design and success of the Valentine portable typewriter in 1970. Together, the two designers founded Studio King Miranda in 1976, which later worked for other furniture and lighting design companies. They received many international awards and recognitions.
Ettore Sottsass (1917-2007) was an influential Italian architect and designer, born in Innsbruck, graduated from the Polytechnic University of Turin, known for his eclectic creativity and for founding the Memphis design movement in 1981, which revolutionized the industry with colorful and playful forms, breaking away from traditional rationalism. His long collaboration with Olivetti earned him awards for the iconic Elea 9003 computer and the Valentine typewriter, while his work ranged from architecture to everyday objects, making him a key figure in 20th-century Italian design.
