George Carwardine (1912–1990) was a pioneering British designer and engineer, best known for creating the iconic Anglepoise articulated desk lamp, a hallmark of functionality, balance, and modern design. Originally designed in the 1930s, the lamp features a clever system of springs and articulated arms, allowing smooth movement and precise positioning.
In the 2000s, the oversized version called MAX was produced, offering a contemporary reinterpretation of the classic desk lamp while retaining its engineering ingenuity and clean aesthetic, ideal for modern interiors and statement lighting.
