Description
Tommaso Barbi (1944–2015) was an Italian designer born in Florence, where he studied design before continuing his education in Rome and Milan. Active mainly during the 1960s and 1970s, Barbi played a significant role in shaping Italian decorative design of the post-war period, gaining international recognition for his distinctive aesthetic.
Tommaso Barbi’s design stands out for its expressive use of polished metals such as brass and bronze, mirrored surfaces, and rich golden finishes. He frequently incorporated reliefs, organic textures, and natural forms inspired by leaves, corals, and shells, blending sculptural qualities with functionality. Among his most iconic creations are the Foglia lamps, which have become emblematic of his style. In addition to lighting, Barbi designed furniture and decorative objects, creating bold yet elegant pieces that define mid-century Italian design.
