Description
Many of Joseph Hoffmann’s design projects were created for specific interior design contexts, as was the case with the Sitzmaschine designed for the Purkersdorf Sanatorium. Many of his pieces are named after the project for which they were conceived, as evidenced by the Fledermaus Chair. This chair was designed for the Fledermaus cabaret in Vienna in 1907. It was later produced by the wooden furniture company Konh.
Since 1969, Wittmann Möbelwerkstätten has held the exclusive license from the Josef Hoffmann Foundation, and the great designer’s unique furniture—including the Fledermaus Chair—is still produced and distributed by the company today.
A chair with a quintessentially Art Deco design. Particularly noteworthy are the runners and wooden spheres at the joints, which are signature elements of Hoffmann’s style. The Fledermaus collection, crafted from bent beech wood, also includes a stool and a two-seater bench version with classic padding and upholstery; in this case, the fabric is from a collection specifically designed by Joseph Hoffmann.
A chair with a classic style intended for interiors with a retro flair, for lovers of design history.
